In a bizarre twist of faith, I thought that one of Melaka’s authentic noodles from Kampung 8 was closed and gone forever, but little did I know that Xu Noodle House authentic Melaka noodles were, in fact, right here in PJ.
Thankfully, Tiffany from the restaurant family left a message in my earlier article indicating that they had reopened their business in Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya. This news was probably one of the best I have heard all year.
Xu Noodle House Authentic Melaka Noodles
Over the last ten years or so, I have been frequenting a place in Melaka called Kg 8 Corner, which sells duck noodles and yee kiau mee, something that only resonates with the Melaka people and not anyone else.
They are not famous, but among the local community from this part of Melaka, they are indeed well-known in terms of the authenticity and quality of the food produced. It takes a Melakan to know what good noodles are, not your wanna-be Instagram or TikTok foodies looking for famous food.
Xu Noodle House opened on September 22, 2024, just a few days ago. I had the chance to chat with Tiffany, the owner’s niece, about their approach to running the business. She firmly said no when I asked if they’d consider the PJ style of teaching foreigners to cook and take the lead in the kitchen.
She shared her experience of what happens when foreigners try to take over the kitchen, emphasizing that hands-on involvement is essential for serving great food. This is a refreshing perspective and a reminder that active participation in the kitchen is crucial to any restaurant’s success. Other eateries could definitely learn from this approach!
After 40 years of dining in Melaka, I’ve noticed a concerning trend: the taste palate of many central Malaysians has been skewed by an overwhelming amount of fusion and confusion. What once defined good food seems lost amidst trends driven by social media hype.
It is amazing how a dish can gain instant fame simply from 1,000 likes on Instagram or Facebook rather than its true culinary merit. This shift raises questions about the authenticity of our food culture and what it means to appreciate good cuisine.
Here comes Xu Noodle House, which is in its second generation and serves real, authentic Melaka noodles. It provides a taste like no other. Trust me, I have been eating a lot of noodles, and most of the time, they are just average.
The dishes in Melaka are fundamentally comfort food—simple, unpretentious meals that focus on heart and flavour rather than fancy presentation. Take duck, for instance: while it’s still just duck, the preparation method can make all the difference.
Similarly, noodles often carry that typical PJ and KL flavour, but the approach is distinct here. It’s tough to describe how unique it is; you need to taste it to understand the depth of flavour and the care that goes into each dish. This authenticity sets Melaka’s food apart and makes it worth exploring.
Let’s get straight to the food. Nowadays, not many people know how to write about food. They prefer to do videos or post photos with catchy titles. Anyway, so what is well-known at Xu Noodle House Authentic Melaka Noodles?
Duck Noodles Melaka Style
Without fail, this is the champion of noodles served at Xu Noodle House, the typical comfort duck noodles, which is done to simplicity. The second-generation son still cooks this in person, making it one of the must-try dishes. It is considered a rare dish, comparing to those in the Klang Valley, therefore, after you taste this, you will be able to tell the difference.
Yee Kiau Mee, an only Melaka-style noodle
I cannot believe that this noowle is now available here in PJ as it is so obscure that you can only find this dish in Melaka, and please, not at Jonker Street ya, but in the outer areas, namely at the residential or local food courts. Yee Kiau Mee is hands down one of the best local Melaka noodle dishes one can try.
Seriously, if you have never heard of this dish, then you are probably just like the other common foodies, who only look at posts from PJ or KL Foodie or those other ‘paid-to-viral’ foodie accounts on social media.
Melaka Fishballs
If you thought you had tried the best fishballs in PJ or KL, you have not tried the Melaka fishballs. Somehow, people in the central region have become used to those general bouncy fishballs with a lot of boric acid added to give it the bounce and texture. But the Melaka-style fishballs are entirely different, and you need to try it to taste the difference.
Nyonya Laksa Melaka Chinese Style
Everyone has their so-called taste, but this Chinese Nyonya Laksa is worth a try, as you see, it is not that touristy-trap kind of Nyonya Laksa everywhere. If you want authentic style local laksa, this is one of them to try.
Other Dishes at Xu Noodle House
There are, of course, many other choices available, but I will highlight the best from Melaka here, and those heading here can also opt to explore some of the other dishes that is offered. But without fail, the duck noodles and yee kiau mee are a must-try.
Where is Xu Noodle House?
Xu Noodle House is located in Aman Suria, and getting here is easy when you use Google Maps or Waze to navigate. There is no train or bus service for those who do not drive, but ride-hailing services are available.

Conclusion
My tastebuds are quite fussy after four decades of eating all over the country, but when there is good food available, I tend to not comment so much, like trying to be a food critique. In this case, the food here is quite good, hence I leave the ball in your court to go and try it yourself. And I often wonder why some “Michelin Recomended” places are doing so well?
I have to say, this is probably the best food news I’ve heard in all of 2024, where I can now get my fix of authentic Melaka noodles right here in PJ, just 10 minute drive from my place. How sweet is that?
For all you Melakans out there, you can now have your fix of Yee Kiua Mee and other noodles right here at Xu Noodle House, an Authentic Melaka Noodles shop in Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya.
