Sarawak Airlines Will Start Flying in 2025
He said the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), the Ministry of Transport, and the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) had agreed upon the acquisition in principle.
Abang Johari Tun Openg also mentioned that; “The current focus is on discussing the technical aspects of the acquisition. I expect it to be concluded by August or, at the latest, by year-end. We will have our own airline by 2025. The airline’s name has been decided, but we cannot announce it yet”.
For now, there are several guesses about the official name of the airlines from the general public, and some of the names people expect are;
1. Borneo Airways
2. Sarawak Airlines
3. Hornbill Airlines
On 23 November 2023, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, revealed that the Sarawak state government was conducting due diligence on MASwings Sdn Bhd in preparation for the acquisition. He added that negotiations with MAG and Khazanah Nasional Bhd were also ongoing regarding purchasing shares in MASwings.
