First, my experience with pancakes is very low as it is not our Malaysian culture to have pancakes. We have the local Chinese and Malay pancakes in my country, but nothing of this supreme level, which I tried here in Kyoto.

The place is called Pancake Room, and it is located in the basement food court of the Kyoto Tower, so finding it is not a problem. I was actually just hungry, so I saw a sign that said there was a food centre below and headed down to see what was available.

To cut a long story or review short, I was somehow attracted to the Pancake Room as that one pancake stood out like a sore thumb – The Kyoto Pancake was calling me, combined with the mochi ball sticks and the ice cream. How could I not resist?

Before that, I studied the menu hard, and even though it was in Japanese, some simple English names were placed on the top. But I had to really look at the photos of each pancake, and the coin-toss in my mind was between the Sando Pancake and the Kyoto Pancake. But when in Kyoto, eat the Kyoto favourite, which was my conclusion.

The taste? Oh my god, the fluffiness of the texture is pretty much ungodly! It is like they sent the mixture down from another universe to make these incredible pancakes. Seriously, I cannot explain otherwise; therefore, you need to try it yourself to discover this alien tech. Enough said, just visit Pancake Room and try it yourself.

Oh, one more thing: If you come during peak hours, you need to wait a little longer, and they will give you a buzzer. When the buzzer sounds, you need to go collect this sinful combination of lust and taste. When you have finished, you must return the plate and tray to the outlet.

To share, when I visited this amazing city, I stayed at the Kyoto Travelodge Kawaramachi, which is my go-to hotel whenever I am back here, and the main reason is because of its location in the main Kawaramachi area, with easy access to public transport and all of the main attractions.

I’m not a huge fan of Wagyu or Kobe Beef, so my food hunt was even more interesting as I mainly wanted to discover more of the local Kyoto food. And wow, this pancake is just the start of it.

Conclusion

Seriously, if you love pancakes or even like them and you’re visiting Kyoto, I highly recommend you try the Kyoto Pancake, as it is out of this world. And if you don’t like it at all, please murder me!

I hope you enjoyed reading my Kyoto Pancake Room review. I now enjoy doing simple food reviews when I travel or even around my home area. Food has been entirely subjective lately, but I still love to find that uniqueness whenever I eat.
