Where to Find Vegetarian Mix Rice in PJ?

PJ Vegetarian Mix Rice

For those who want to know where to find vegetarian mix rice in PJ, you can look at some of the places I have compiled here based on actual experiences eating their food.

You must wonder why I am doing this as you see me reviewing non-vegetarian food as well, and the answer is that I follow the Buddhist 1st and 15th monthly vegetarian.

Therefore, this list will only highlight the mix-rice style vegetarian places at hawker centres and coffee shops. Not those restaurants or cafe style ones.

Where to Find Vegetarian Mix Rice in PJ?

In general, for the PJ vegetarians, you would already know where to get your fix, but this article is created for those who have just moved to PJ or want to explore something new in terms of choices.

Most of these vegetarian hawker stalls are found in commercial areas; therefore, it is not hard to locate them. All you need to do is just Waze the coffee shop name, and you should be able to find the stalls.

And another thing is that most people like to talk about or write about restaurants and cafes that serve vegetarian or organic food in PJ and Klang Valley. It is seldom that people speak about hawker stalls that sell vegetarian.

Below are some places that sell Vegetarian Mix Rice in PJ and the hawker-style compared to the restaurant or cafe style.

Restoran Welcome Vegetarian Damansara
Restoran Welcome Vegetarian in Damansara Jaya, PJ.

1. Restoran Welcome Vegetarian at Damansara Jaya

Probably one of the well-known vegetarian restaurants that are family-run and with a large selection of mixed rice dishes. They also sell cakes and selected desserts all day through.

In the mornings, you can find a good selection of fried noodles like mee hoon, mee, kuay teow, yee meen and fried rice, similar to the economy noodle style.

The taste here is that it is too staged, meaning it is mass-produced for large crowds. Some of the food is also prepared by the Indonesian workers there.

A tip is to come here earlier than early, beat all the uncles and aunties that are nit-picky, and take their sweet time choosing dishes. Overall, this place has probably the largest selection of vegetarian mixed rice and other side dishes.

Sandalo Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant
Sandalo Vegetarian Cuisine at Damansara Utama, PJ.

2. Sandalo Vegetarian Cuisine at Damansara Utama

This is something new for me as I assume they are a fully vegetarian restaurant serving dishes, but during the covid19 pandemic, they opened up to mixed rice dishes and here’s the best part – hotel style!

Overall, this is my favourite vegetarian mix rice place because of its food quality. When you have tried many different types, you can eventually taste the difference in their ingredients.

At any one time, they will have about 12 vegetarian dishes displayed and three choices of rice available. A pot of soup or curry vegetables is towards the end, while they will charge you an additional RM0.50 sen for packaging, so it is best to bring your containers.

3. Vegetarian Stall at Kedia Kopi Centrepoint Bandar Utama (Temporary Closed for MCO)

A simple and easy vegetarian stall that serves a decent selection of dishes. Not your full spread but you can find around 15 types of dishes at any one time.

The trick is to come here early so that you can choose more dishes and if you come around 11.30 AM, most of the dishes are finishing or finished. So, I recommend coming here around 10.30 AM to 11.00 AM to get the full spread.

Don’t be surprised if a foreign staff serves you as the lady boss is sometimes not around. The price is reasonable for the standard three dishes and rice.

Section 17 PJ Vegetarian Food Stall
The vegetarian mix rice stall at Restoran Hong Seng in Section 17, PJ.

4. Vegetarian Stall at Kedai Kopi Hong Seng Section 17

This is one of my favourite places due to the very old school homestyle vegetarian cooking done by the elderly aunty here.

Old Town PJ Vegetarian Food Stall
The vegetarian food stall is tucked at the back of the coffee shop in Old Town.

5. Vegetarian Stall at Restoran New Beauty Century Old Town

This is a very old school stall tucked away at the back of the new beauty century coffee shop and is run by an elderly aunty. There is no English written, so you should identify this with the standard vegetarian sign.

Another landmark is the other Bak Kut Teh stall near the traffic light and aquarium shop. This place has been around for quite a while now, and the coffee shop opens up till 3.00 or 4.00 pm only.

The vegetarian here is a classic old-school style and relates well to the older customers. However, you will also see some younger customers these days.

Wai Sek Kai SS2 Vegetarian Food
The SS2 Medan Selera food court is where you can find the stall.

6. Vegetarian Mix Rice Stall at SS2 Wai Sek Kai Food Court

An old uncle operates this stall, but I used to see an old auntie that sold the vegetarian mix rice. The price is very reasonable, but the spread is standard.

Often, I would classify this as more of a home-cooked style vegetarian dish than the commercial ones available. The stall is located near one end of the food court, next to the dried floss shop. If you know Aba’s Nasi Lemak stall, the vegetarian stall is at the other end.

Aman Suria Vegetarian Restaurant Sam Sin Yi
Sam Sin Yi Restaurant at Aman Suria, PJ.

7. Sam Sin Yi Vegetarian Mix Rice Aman Suria

This place is located in Aman Suria but on the outside near the Kayu Nasi Kandar area. It offers some straightforward dishes while you have a choice of vegetarian fried noodles to choose from.

Overall, the noodles seem to be very attractive when you walk in. Also, best to go early as there can be a crowd during lunch hours. They also sell other vegetarian products like biscuits and so on.

Section 14 Vegetarian Mix Rice Shop
The vegetarian food stall has no name and number in the Medan Selera Section 14.

8. Vegetarian Stall Section 14 Medan Selera

This is one of the older stalls hidden in PJ’s Digital Mall Section 14 area. If you know the medan selera behind the Digital Mall or KFC near Jaya Shopping Centre, this is the place.

The uncle runs the stall serving very basic vegetarian mix rice dishes and is extremely simple for the ordinary person. There is no name or number, but you can easily identify the stall from the word Vegetarian. The price for two dishes and rice is RM5.00 to RM6.00, which is reasonable.

However, if you go for three dishes, the price can go up to RM8.00 or RM9.00, so it is up to you to decide.

Vegetarian Food Chow Yang SS2
What the Meng Tuck vegetarian shop looks like.

9. Vegetarian Shop at SS2 Chow Yang Meng Tuck Health Food Centre

This one has been around for a long time and is the same row as the 7-11 shop. At first, when I came here a long time ago, it felt very different compared to my recent visits in 2021 and 2022.

You must know that they are the only vegetarian in the Chow Yang area of SS2, and for some reason, it is quite pricey. I took away rice and three dishes on my last visit here, and the uncle behind the counter charged me RM10.00. While my wife’s one also had three dishes and was RM9.00.

So, if vegetarianism is supposed to help people and not overcharge, Meng Tuck is definitely not doing that, as it looks like they are all out to make money.

Again, it is entirely up to you if you want to dine here or take away, but I find the energy of this place not too good. The owner looks like he’s not interested in doing business while overcharging. And it seems like the SS2 people don’t really care much about price cause of convenience.

Address: 133, Jalan SS 2/6, SS 2, 47300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Hours: 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM
Close: Thursday

Conclusion

I mainly wrote this article for anyone looking for vegetarian mix rice in PJ or Petaling Jaya. One of the reasons is that it is difficult to find these places in urban areas.

And more often, there are more vegetarian restaurants and cafes out there, which are slightly more expensive than the hawker-styled vegetarian stalls. Sometimes, we want to have some simple food, which are the places that cater to it.
