Starhill Gallery Home of The Tastemakers

The Starhill Gallery shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur is undergoing massive renovations and is scheduled to be open in late 2021 or early 2022 as The Starhill Gallery – Home of The Tastemakers.

Originally, the massive makeover project was supposed to be completed by Q1 of 2021, but due to the Covid 19 pandemic in Malaysia, the project was delayed until further notice. And from the looks of things, it may probably be opened in Q1 of 2022.

YTL Corporation stated that the iconic upscale mall in Kuala Lumpur would be relaunched with a brand new look and a sexier name, “The Starhill – Home of The Tastemakers”. It had started its transformation process after announcing its rebranding in October 2019.

YTL Land and Development Berhad vice president Joseph Yeoh explained – “The Starhill will be the new visionary monument of modern luxury in Kuala Lumpur offering the best of experiential retail in an intimate boutique environment that exudes elegance and sophistication. Shoppers will enjoy a refined home-like ambience that is infused with warm hospitality and stylish aesthetics of true Tastemakers for each of our touchpoints.”

A fine curation of leading luxury brands from around the world in high fashion, contemporary designs, timepieces, jewellery and lifestyle indulgences will pair up with the best of international and Asian cuisines in cafes, bistros and restaurants in The Starhill that awaits all who has discerning eyes for style and taste.

Bukit Bintang Sephora Building Renovation New Look
The former futuristic Sephora Building in front of Starhill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.

Some of you may remember this place from the unique and futuristic building design of Sephora, which was located just in front of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. It used to be one of the entrances into Starhill Gallery and was probably one of the most photographed buildings in KL city.

Recently in August of 2021, I drove past Jalan Bukit Bintang and had a shock when I saw that the iconic Sephora building was no longer there and a much more modern and minimalistic design was being built there.
