If you are looking for Zero Waste Shops in PJ and KL, I have compiled a list of these places for your convenience, and they are in no order except by Petaling Jaya or Kuala Lumpur locations.
During the pandemic and just after it, there was an explosion of zero waste shops all over the Klang Valley, but in the last two years, many have closed for unknown reasons. Anyway, below is what I managed to find, which is updated as of 28 January 2025.
Zero Waste Shops in PJ and KL
For those unfamiliar, zero-waste shops focus on minimizing waste and promoting sustainable living. They typically offer products that are either package-free or come in recyclable, reusable, or compostable packaging. The goal is to reduce single-use plastics and excess packaging, major contributors to environmental waste.
What can you find in a zero waste shop:
- Bulk Goods: Many zero waste shops have bulk bins where you can refill items like grains, pasta, nuts, and even spices, which helps reduce packaging waste. You can bring your containers or use their reusable ones.
- Eco-friendly Personal Care Products: These might include bar soaps, shampoo bars, and toothpaste tablets, often packaged in paper or metal instead of plastic bottles or tubes.
- Cleaning Products: Refillable cleaning products (like dishwashing liquids and laundry detergent), reusable cleaning cloths, and natural cleaning tools like bamboo brushes are common.
- Reusable Alternatives: Items like metal straws, beeswax wraps, cloth shopping bags, reusable produce bags, and water bottles help replace single-use plastics.
- Sustainable Food Containers: Glass jars, stainless steel containers, cloth bags, and other alternatives to plastic storage.
- Compostable & Biodegradable Products: Includes compostable trash bags, bamboo toothbrushes, and sustainable food wraps.

Conclusion
In reality, there has been a shocking number of closures for zero waste stores in the Klang Valley since post-pandemic, and after doing some research online, I found at least eight outlets closed in the last two years.
However, Asia News Network ran an article titled “Malaysia’s zero-waste movement gaining steam again,” which claims otherwise. I believe that the article was written for content’s sake without proper fact-checking on the zero-waste movement in the country.
Zero Waste Shops in PJ and KL aim to support a sustainable lifestyle by offering products that help reduce your environmental footprint, whether by encouraging reusability, recycling, or using environmentally friendly materials. It’s all about making small, mindful changes that add to a big positive impact on the planet.
