This year, the Borneo Jazz Festival 2023 will be organised by the Miri City Council (MCC) instead of the Sarawak Tourism Board, as it has been done for years. This was revealed by the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Update Sept 2023: At the current date of this update, on 25th Sept 2023, there has not been any confirmation about Borneo Jazz 2023; therefore, I regret to inform you that those planning to attend should wait for the official announcement. It is also said that the Miri City Council was to take over the event.
Borneo Jazz Festival 2023
For this year’s festival, no confirmed artist is mentioned at the time of this writing, and once the new organisers confirm it, I will update it here. But rest assured, the festival will take place in October at Coco Cabana in Miri, Sarawak.
Datuk Karim also mentioned that the Miri City Council mayor Adam Yii and his team would head to the Java Jazz Festival 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia, to understand and learn how to organise a successful jazz festival. He added that the Java Jazz Festival is the largest in Southeast Asia.
Karim also mentioned that after years of the tourism board organising it, it’s time to let Miri City Council organise and manage it. We must outsource it to the Mirians; the tourism board can guide and assist them.
Having pointed out that his Ministry emphasises musical events in Sarawak, Karim also said he would tag along to the Java Jazz Festival to explore how the organisers manage the event. And if we can tie some understanding, maybe some of the bands performing at the Java Jazz Festival – we hope to bring some of them to the Borneo Jazz Festival and Kuching Jazz Festival.
Miri is also home to the Country Music Festival (MCMF), which takes place around November in the city area. The last Miri Country Music Festival occurred at Eastwood Valley, just minutes from the main city area.

Hello there Peter, I believe the organisers will be updating the info soon enough, and this year, the Miri Council is the main organizer for the event. You can also contact the Sarawak Tourism Board and get more detailed information about this.
